Press release on the results of joint research with Institute for Materials Research, Tohoku University and Japan Synchrotron Radiation Research Institute

In collaboration with a research group led by Shogo Kawaguchi, a senior researcher at Japan Synchrotron Radiation Research Institute, and Associate Professor Wataru Kosaka and Prof. Hitoshi Miyasaka at Institute for Materials Research, Tohoku University, Prof. Sugimoto has developed the world's first material in which the properties of a magnet are controlled by the adsorption of carbon dioxide in micro-level holes. By visualizing the structure of the adsorption and desorption of gas molecules based on X-ray analysis, it was clarified that the change in the properties of the magnet is caused by a simple mechanism. This achievement was published in Chemical Science (impact factor 9.825), one of the top journals, as basic research that is expected to be applied to magnetic materials.
